About Us

Rothbury Highland Pipe Band was formed in 1920 as Rothbury Kilted Pipe Band, and like many institutions, we have had - how shall I say - fluctuations in the numbers of band members.

The current Rothbury Highland Pipe Band has members from all walks of life and from as far a-field as Newcastle-upon-Tyne. There are 22 in number and we have youngsters learning the ropes to ensure the Band will continue well into the future.

Our aim is to enjoy ourselves and bring enjoyment to the public far and wide. We do not tend to go in for competitions, but have in the past been invited to attend prestige events in Edinburgh and appeared on TV.

The photo below is a poor one, but our Drum Major of that time (Jack Miller), is clear to see as he's the only one with a Scarlett Tunic - this was a very distinquishing feature of our band a few years ago - and Jack was very proud to wear it.

World Tours of Coquetdale

A long, long time ago ........ (well not that long) ....... in a land far, far away ........ (upper Coquetdale actually) ..... Rothbury Highland Pipe Band decided they should do something to thank everyone who'd supported them over these many years, and an idea was born - A 'World Tour' of Coquetdale, or at least that's how these outings have become known.

This year (2010) is the third time we've done it, and this time due to other commitments, we were without our friends from Neilston Pipe Band who've been great supporters of our band over the years.

Various forms of transport have been used to take us on our 'World Tours', the last two being done in old London Routemaster Double-Decker buses - quite an experience in itself - if you know the area with it's narrow, winding roads.

Last year the bus came courtesy of Chainbridge Honey Farm nr Berwick-upon-Tweed (see opposite), and this years (see below) was from Dreadnought Buses of Alnwick.
